Breathtaking Switzerland

I will never forget Switzerland, the first country I visited in the continent of Europe, because the country's landscape, nature and scenery is really breathtaking! When my friend Norie invited me to visit her in Basel I did not hesitate to visit her. Having someone to host you in Switzerland is a big help because it is an expensive country. Yes, expensive! The Swiss McDonalds' meal costs higher than the usual McDonald meals in other countries.

Who would have thought these are chocolates?

Day 1 : I arrived in Zurich Airport (also known as Kloten Airport) where I was fetched by Norie. We had our dinner at a restaurant in the airport then headed to Basel via SBB train. From Basel SBB station, we went to her place in Basel via tram transport.  Transportation system in Switzerland is very accessible. I bought a Swiss Travel Pass, an all-in-one ticket which I can use unlimited for one month to travel by rail or by road throughout Switzerland. I did not stay for one month but it was still practical that I purchased one. The next day, we started exploring Basel. We walked at both sides of the Rhine river and it was truly amazing to see old castles, clean walkways and parks, and attractive European houses. Because it was Christmas season, Basel was very colorful and lively especially at night as many establishments were decorated with Christmas lights. I was also impressed that you can drink the water from the fountains in almost all public places. From the Rhine river, we went to Basler Munster, a cathedral with red sandstone walls and twin towers, and is the main landmark in Basel. Just near the cathedral was a Christmas bazaar where I bought some budget-friendly souvenirs. We also bought and tasted their uniquely-designed chocolates  as well as their local sausage. We also experienced a pleasant afternoon walk at Freie Strasse, the shopping center of the city and had a glimpse of the city hall.

Basel is situated near the borders of  France and Germany. We also visited Dreiländereck, a bend in the Rhine river which is the exact corner where the borders of the three countries of Switzerland, France and Germany meet. This corner is marked by a tower with the flags of the three countries in it. This is not a popular tourist destination in Basel, but standing on the three-countries corner was really a wonderful experience because it was like being in three places at one time.

At the three countries corner. The corner where the borders of Switzerland, Germany and France meet.

We also explored the city of Zurich, Switzerland's biggest city. It was a pleasant experience walking the main downtown streets and crossing the love-lock bridge in this metropolis. Watching the sun set while cruising lake Zurich for one hour in that cold December afternoon was truly unforgettable.

I also had a chance to tour Bern. My walking tour at Bern, the capital city of Switzerland made me appreciate the country more. Strolling the streets of the old city, a glance at the 13th century clock tower, a glimpse of the Federal Palace and overlooking the city of Bern at  the Old Town hill was truly an amazing experience. The Philippine embassy is also located in this city and I did not forget to pass by.
At the top of Mount Santis
A mountain tour to Santis was also one great experience for me. The snowy mountain, 2502 meters above the sea level, is the highest mountain of the Alpstein region in northeastern Switzerland. Through an aerial cable car, we reached  the top of Mt. Santis and enjoyed the panoramic view of Europe from the top. From the peak, one can able to see Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, France and Italy all at the same time. We had our lunch at the panorama restaurant at the top of the mountain, and fed the Alpines resting on the restaurants terraces.
I also met new friends,  the Kissling couple, Rina and Claude who warmly welcomed me in their home in Basel.
It was truly one unforgettable vacation for me.
I fell in love with Switzerland! It is stunningly beautiful, and I fell in love with its breathtaking nature, the scenic view of its cities and the calmness and peacefulness of the entire country in general.

MY BUDGET FRIENDLY TRIPS TO 30 COUNTRIES

Travel is a less important spending priority for me before. It is only ten years after I started working when I had my first overseas travel. Enjoying my first travel experience, my dream of exploring the world did not stop there. As of January 2023, I have been to 30 countries and I can't wait for my next travel adventures. All the unique experiences I had in my previous travels made me thirst for more travel escapades. Every getaway trip, unplanned or mostly planned, made me appreciate life more and made me forget the many negativity of the world. Immersing myself in a new culture, meeting new people and seeing the wonders and diversities of other countries are just few of the rewards I get from traveling. Not all my travel experiences are good, but every trip is worth remembering. Mine, as much as possible, are all budget-friendly trips. I am usually availing of promo airfares and my hotel bookings are mostly in inexpensive accommodations. I plann...

Ugu Bigyan Garden, a must-visit in Tiaong.

Tiaong is a landlocked municipality in the province of Quezon and its borders are the city of San Pablo in Laguna, and the municipalities of Dolores, San Antonio and Candelaria in Quezon. It is not as popular as the other tourist destinations in the Philippines but it has a charm of its own. I am from Tiaong and it will always be my home.  I may not have explored the whole of the town, but this first class municipality, two and a half hour drive from Manila, offers its own authentic tourism to Tiaongins and visitors. Ugu Bigyan Pottery Garden and Restaurant is a must-visit in this town. Nipa and brick-inspired huts This seasoned well-maintained house of the owner is right in front of the entrance gate. The garden owned by the famous potter Mr. Ugu Bigyan in Baranggay Lusacan, in Tiaong, Quezon, a 10-minute drive from the town proper, offers a very relaxing and cozy ambience. A weekend visit to the garden tog...

Lively HONGKONG

Hongkong is my first overseas travel destination. Being the closest country to the Philippines, it is Filipino's favorite getaway place. Having been to HK for twice already, planning the itineraries for a quick DIY tour in my recent trip to the city is not anymore difficult. Cebu pacific has several flights to HK, and the low fares are usually the very early or very late flights.  Flying is not tiring because Manila to HK is only a two-hour flight, and taking a six-am flight last July was not a bad option at all. Prior to our trip, I already availed of the deals and promos of Klook, Traveloka, and Booking.com.  I find these websites/apps very meaningful travel partners. Hongkong is an expensive city so I really appreciate the discounts I get from these apps. Filipinos are not required to obtain visa to enter HK and allowed to stay for 14 days as a tourist. A quick DIY tour is very much possible.  Below is our personalized itiner...
