Lively HONGKONG

Hongkong is my first overseas travel destination. Being the closest country to the Philippines, it is Filipino's favorite getaway place. Having been to HK for twice already, planning the itineraries for a quick DIY tour in my recent trip to the city is not anymore difficult.

Cebu pacific has several flights to HK, and the low fares are usually the very early or very late flights.  Flying is not tiring because Manila to HK is only a two-hour flight, and taking a six-am flight last July was not a bad option at all.

Prior to our trip, I already availed of the deals and promos of Klook, Traveloka, and Booking.com.  I find these websites/apps very meaningful travel partners. Hongkong is an expensive city so I really appreciate the discounts I get from these apps.

Filipinos are not required to obtain visa to enter HK and allowed to stay for 14 days as a tourist. A quick DIY tour is very much possible.  Below is our personalized itinerary staying three days in Hongkong:

Day 1: Airport Arrival, Victoria Harbour, Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, Avenue of Stars

Arrived at Airport. I redeemed the Octopus cards I bought via Klook in the airport. The octopus card comes already with a HK$50 load and can be used for bus and train transports, and are also accepted at convenience stores and restaurants. You can top up load anytime at 7-11 stores or loading machines located at train stations. We also avoided the long queue when buying tickets.

We rode the A21 bus from the airport to our hotel accommodation in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. After checking in to our hotel, we took lunch in one of the restaurants in the area,  strolled in the shopping streets and visited some malls in this busy hub. By late afternoon, we went to Victoria harbour which is just few minutes walk from the hotel, strolled leisurely at the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade and continued our walking tour until the stretch of the Avenue of Stars. Before 8pm, we went back to the promenade to have a good spot in the Symphony of Lights Show.

After the light show, we hit the road again, had dinner and went back to the hotel.

Day 2: Hotel Disneyland Theme Park  and  Mongkok

This is actually my third time in the "Happiest Place on Earth", as I always include it in my itinerary everytime I visit HK. The park is not only for the young ones, but also for the "young once". My niece and my father who is with me during the tour enjoyed the rides and the magical experience of this popular theme park.

A one whole day is ideal  to  enjoy the shows, the rides, the food and all the attractions. After the parade, we then headed to the busy and crowded Mongkok for souvenirs shopping and stayed until midnight enjoying our night walk tour.

Day 3 : Ngong Ping Village, Lantau Island  and  Victoria Peak
If you want to be close to nature, go outside the busy cities of Hongkong and Kowloon Islands.  Ngong Ping Village in  Lantau Island is a must-visit. MTR and bus (Bus 23) rides will get you to this famous tourist spot. A cable car ride is a quick option to reach the village. A half day is recommended to wander the whole village including the sightseeing for the Big Buddha and the Po Lin Monastery. We prefer to just look at the Giant Buddha from below because the almost 300 steps climb to get to the Buddha platform will be too tiring for my senior citizen father.

Early afternoon we headed to the Victoria Peak. Riding a double-decker bus going to the Peak is already a city-sightseeing experience. We went up the Sky Terrace and had a 360 degree panoramic view of HK while watching the sunset.

Day 4 - Trip to Macau
The ferry terminal going to Macau is also a waking distance from our hotel. I have a separate blog for our macau trip which you can check from the travel escapade menu.

The attractions below are included in the itineraries during my previous two trips:

a. Ocean Park - if you love Panda and want to get up close to a variety of animals and want to enjoy exciting rides too, then this is the place to go. A one whole day is also ideal to enjoy all the attractions of this wonderful place. I find it better to wander here than Disneyland but my niece prefer the latter.

At HK Ocean Park with friends during my second visit

b. Sampan Tour We were also thrilled with our sampan boat ride experience in Aberdeen village. Seeing the yachts, houseboats, boat restaurants and big ships while cruising the Aberdeen fishing village is a must-try in HK.

Hongkong is a fascinating city. There are a lot of things to see and do. Food trips, sightseeing and shopping are the best things to do here. I may have visited for three times already, but I still include it in my list of travel destination in the future.

See you again Hongkong!

MY BUDGET FRIENDLY TRIPS TO 30 COUNTRIES

Travel is a less important spending priority for me before. It is only ten years after I started working when I had my first overseas travel. Enjoying my first travel experience, my dream of exploring the world did not stop there. As of January 2023, I have been to 30 countries and I can't wait for my next travel adventures. All the unique experiences I had in my previous travels made me thirst for more travel escapades. Every getaway trip, unplanned or mostly planned, made me appreciate life more and made me forget the many negativity of the world. Immersing myself in a new culture, meeting new people and seeing the wonders and diversities of other countries are just few of the rewards I get from traveling. Not all my travel experiences are good, but every trip is worth remembering. Mine, as much as possible, are all budget-friendly trips. I am usually availing of promo airfares and my hotel bookings are mostly in inexpensive accommodations. I plann...

Ugu Bigyan Garden, a must-visit in Tiaong.

Tiaong is a landlocked municipality in the province of Quezon and its borders are the city of San Pablo in Laguna, and the municipalities of Dolores, San Antonio and Candelaria in Quezon. It is not as popular as the other tourist destinations in the Philippines but it has a charm of its own. I am from Tiaong and it will always be my home.  I may not have explored the whole of the town, but this first class municipality, two and a half hour drive from Manila, offers its own authentic tourism to Tiaongins and visitors. Ugu Bigyan Pottery Garden and Restaurant is a must-visit in this town. Nipa and brick-inspired huts This seasoned well-maintained house of the owner is right in front of the entrance gate. The garden owned by the famous potter Mr. Ugu Bigyan in Baranggay Lusacan, in Tiaong, Quezon, a 10-minute drive from the town proper, offers a very relaxing and cozy ambience. A weekend visit to the garden tog...
